A packed clubroom gathered on Friday evening to hear two illustrated talks by local young historian, Paddy Brown. ‘The Whalley Story’ riveted the audience for the first hour. Everyone then enjoyed the winter warmer of Julia’s meat and potato pie, ready for Paddy’s fascinating research into founder members of the club in 1912, and their family involvement with businesses and properties in the Whalley district. With the outbreak of WW1 several had distinguished tours of duty but inevitably there were some tragic losses. Paddy gave a most valuable insight into the history of Whalley Golf Club on a very different but memorable evening at the club.
Paddy’s story of Eustace Longworth, can be seen in the window of Cosgroves as part of ‘Whalley Remembers’.
