Live From Ascot

Despite the weather outside being damp and chilly and nothing like a beautiful “Summers Day” the atmosphere in the Clubhouse was very different. Large television screens had been put up in all the main rooms so that everyone could see the races in comfort.

From 12.00 noon onwards a steady stream of very smart ladies (and gentlemen) arrived determined to have a great afternoon and hopefully win some money. By the time it came to serving Champagne, lovely Smoked Salmon Sandwiches and Strawberries and Cream there were 106 members and friends ready for the start of racing from Royal Ascot at 2.30pm.

Our thanks must go to three very appropriately dressed gentlemen who were more than happy to take our “Bets” and sort out the “Odds” and with the proceeds from the raffle and the profit from the betting we raised just under £2,000, which will be used hopefully to finish off the work on the Car Park.

Thanks must also be given to everyone who helped in anyway to make it such a successful day.

If you couldn’t manage to come this year, please make a note in your 2016 diary, as this event is one of the highlights at Whalley Golf Club.
