A full field competed in this competition on a fine September day. Results were:


Steve Farnsworth & Mike Conroy (Whalley) 50pts winning £80 each

Second were Chris Davies & Paul Wray (Whalley) with 43pts winning £50 each

Third: D Berry (ghyll) & J Hunt (Nelson) with 42pts winning £40 each

Fourth came D Lever & J Dempsey (Turton) winning £30 each

Veteran’s Bowl And Medal  27/08/16

It was a great day for Les Saddington who got his name on the board forever by winning the Veteran’s Trophy at Whalley Golf Club..

Les posted a tremendous nett 68 to win by one shot from Malcolm Salmon nett 69, John Kearsley came third with a 72.

The medal competition was won by Craig Taylor nett 72, Chris Summers second with nett 73 and congratulations on your engagement, third on a card playoff was P Kilgallon.

Only one two on the day going to that old favourite Trevor Thornber.

Captain’s Day – Saturday 23rd July

Fifty seven men competed for the Captain Richard Ferley’s prize on Saturday 23 July. Gareth Hill won the the champagne and magnificent silver salver with a nett 66. Second on a card play off was James Kennerley with 69. Third place went to Simon Lightbowm. Other prize winners joined the Captain at the dinner after which the captain thanked all those who had made the day such a success and reflected on the extremely good quality of the greens. For this he thanked the Chair of Greens and greenkeepers Ryan and Ben for their work on the course. The evening was rounded off with dancing.

Millennium Trophy – Saturday 28th May

On a great day for golf and the course in fantastic condition Joe Yates came in as the Millenium winner with a nett 69, two shots better that Stephen Crossley nett 71, with third place in Division one going to Nick Williamson.

Division 2 winner was Peter Palich nett 72, second was Geoff Mayoh nett 73 and third going to Chris Driver nett 74.

Two’s comp winners are Arron Ripley, Nick Williamson, Michael Seery and Steve Farnsworth with a Desmond ( two two’s ).

Singles Stableford – Saturday 14th May

It was a great day for golf on Saturday when Adam Dennis won the monthly Stableford competition with 39 pts and the Div 2 winner, the course was in tremendous condition and looking better by the week.

Second in Div 2 were Ken Chesworth 38 pts and Clive Rees anchoring in with 37 pts.

Top three in Div 1 all shared 37 pts with Nick Jeffersons winning on a card play off from Mike Conroy and Chris Summers.

Five two’s on the day with Kevin Moore’s being the highlight with an eagle on the 7th hole.

Singles Medal – Saturday 23rd April

April Medal was the comp on Sat 23rd and it was Captain Elect George Blenkinship who romped to first place in division two and overall winner with a four under par nett 68.

Second in division two went to Howard Walmsley net 70 with Paul Irwin third nett 72

Division one winner was John Kearsley nett 71, second Peter Seavers  net 72 with third place going to Craig Taylor nett 73.

No two’s on the day.

The Bob Caladine Trophy – 4 ball betterball – Tuesday 19 Apl

Winners with 45 points – Don Blanche & John Kearsley.

Runners up with 43 points – Malcolm Salmon & Howard Walmsley.

E.L.G.A Qualifier – 16th April

ELGA qualifier was the competition at Whalley with three players to qualify for the final at Mytton Fold.

It was the three J’s that beat the rest of the field with John Heap coming first with nett 70, second was Joseph Yates nett 71 beating John Rostron again with nett 71 on a card playoff.

Long Handicap Trophy went to John Hamilton nett 73, second was Chris Driver 75 and thisd was Geoff Mayoh 77.

It was a day to remember for Joseph Yates who also had the only two of the day bagging himself £42.

3 Man Team- Saturday 9th April

Whalley Golf Course was a little wet in areas but it didn’t stop C Rees, S Farnsworth and T Thornber posting a very respectable 82 pts.

Second place went to G Hope, G Meloy and C Driver 81pts with third place going to C T Elliott, J Kennerley and M Conroy 79pts winning on a card playoff.

Only three two’s on the day going to T Thornber, J Kennerley and S Green.

Hangover Stakes – 24th October 2015
Saturday’s winner was the relatively sober Chris Thompson with 40 points,second place went to newly crowned Whalley GC golfer of the year Jeremy Wade with 39 points and 3rd place went to designated driver John Hamilton with 37 points.
Stewart Andrews timed his 2 perfectly,the only one on the day netting him £41.

Stableford- Saturday 17th October 2015
The overall winner was Joe Yates with 44pts.Division 1 winner was Ian Wrathall with 39 pts, 2nd was Chris Blackadder with 38pts and 3rd place went to Kevin Moore with 37 points.
Division 2 winner in a card playoff was Roger Bramley on 39pts , with the runner up spot going to Jeremy Wade.
There were 6 2’s on the day worth £8 each – C. Blackadder, D. Hanson, C. Taylor, R. Bramley, J Yates and J. Hyde.

Fourball Better Ball Medal – Saturday 10th October 2015
It was a cobbled together team consisting of Gary Meakin, just back from his Spanish tour and Clive Rees returning from work commitments who posted what can only be described as a record breaking nett 56 won by seven clear shots in front of second place Ken Bolton and Dave Hanson nett 63. Seven two’s on the day going to Chris Blackadder, Arron Ripley, John Kearsley, Bruce Craig, Roger Lee, Gary Meakin and Bill Banks.

October Stableford – Saturday 3rd October 2015
The overall winner with 38 points and also Division One winner was Ian Wrathall. Second place went to Paul Wray who finished the day with back to back birdies giving him 37 points and in third place was Colin T Elliott also with 37 points.
Division Two winner was “in form” Jeremy Wade with 36 points, Malcolm Salmon was second with 34 points and Chris Kett was third also with 34 points. Two’s on the day went to Chris Blackadder, David Hanson, Paul Wray, Gareth Hill and Jeremy Wade.

Brandreth and Ultima – 26th September 2015
The Brandreth is the Champion of Champions competition and the Ultima is for the eternal bridesmaids!
What a lovely sunny September day it was with John Hamilton posting a nett 71 to win the Brandreth and get his name on the board, Mike Conroy was second nett 72 and Tony Moore third nett 73.
Ultima trophy went to Chris Summers with an excellent nett 69, Paul Irwin second with nett 70 and Dave Flanagan came third with a nett 71.
No two’s on the day.

Len Rowbotham Trophy – 22nd September
The winner of the Len Rowbottom Trophy and also Division Two winner was Clive Rees with 38 points, second was Howard Walmsley with 38 points and third place also with 38 points John Hyde.
Division One winner with 38 points was John Jobes, second place was Nick Jefferson with 38 points and third place went to Stephen Crossley with 37 points.
Ken Bolton was the only player who had a two.

Single Stableford – 12th September 2015
A great comeback for Danny Liles. Danny has only been back at the club for two weeks but showed that class is permanent. Danny posted 39 points to win by one shot from Stephen Crossley and third place in Division One went to John Jobes with 36 points.
Division Two winner was Graham Hill with 38 points, Paul Irwin was second with 37 pts and in third place was John Harvey also with 37 points.
Only three two’s on the day going to Chris Blackadder, Alan Strange and Ken Bolton.

3 Man Team – 5th September 2015
The Winners of the Three Man Team Event on Saturday were P Wray, C T Elliott and T Thornber. With two scores to count on each hole the winning trio posted 46 points going out and 40 points coming home therefore winning by four points.
Second place went to J Rostron, M Seery and M Crabtree.
Third place going to J Yates, M Conroy and A Dennis.
Only four two’s on the day going to J Jobes, C Taylor, S Lightbown and C T Elliott.

Veteran’s bowl 29th August 2015
Trevor Thornber was in fine form on Saturday, posting a magnificent nett 66 to win the Veterans Bowl for a second time.
Trevor, who plays off nine, only dropped three shots on the front nine making him the winner by three shots from Clive Rees with nett 69 and third place went to Steve Farnsworth with nett 71.
The Non Veteran Medal went to Stewart Andrew with nett 71 beating Graham Meloy who had nett 72 and Kevin Walker with nett 72.
Only one two on the day going to Steve Farnsworth.

Len Rowbottom Trophy 22nd August
Also Division Two winner was Clive Rees with 38 pts, coming in second was Howard Walmsley again with 38pts and third place went to John Hyde who also had 38pts.
Division One winner with 38pts was John Jobes, in second place was Nick Jefferson with 38 pts and third place went to Stephen Crossley with 37 pts.
Only one two on the day went to Ken Bolton.

Frank Longworth Trophy – Saturday 15th August 2015
A day to remember for club character Roy Ellis. With good weather in the afternoon and the course in very good condition, Roy posted a well earned nett 67 to win the competition by two shots from Simon Lightbown who finished with a nett 69.
Division 1 winner was Simon Lightbown with nett 69 then Arron Ripley coming second with a nett 71 and third place went to Peter Fletcher also with a nett 71.
Overall winner and Division 2 winner was Roy Ellis with nett 67, David Holroyd was second and Jeremy Wade was in third place.
Two’s competition winners were Michael Fletcher with a ‘Desmond’ (Two two’s), John Kearsley, Peter Fletcher, Roy Ellis and Brian Keating.

Arthur Longworth Cup 2nd Round – Saturday 1st August 2015
Overall winner was Peter Seavers with a commendable 68. Division 1 second place went to Peter Fletcher with 68 and third was John Heap also with 68. Division 2 winner was the ever popular Bruce Craig with 69 followed by cup winning Nick Jefferson with 70. Third in this high scoring match was Steve Farnsworth with 72..

Arthur Longworth Cup 1st Round Saturday 25th July 2015
New member Nick Jefferson posted a three under par round of nett 69. This gives him the outright lead going into the second leg which will be played on Saturday 1st August. Second place went to Colin T Elliott, who also won Division One with a nett 70. This was CTE’s second win of the week, after playing in his first Senior’s Doubles Open along with Gary “Rocky” Meakin on Monday 20th July, Meakin had six birdies on the day; awesome golf! Second in Division One was Martin Crabtree with nett 72 and a well deserved third place going to Nick Williamson with nett 73. Division Two winner and overall leader was Nick Jefferson, in second place with a steady nett 72 was Steve Farnsworth and third place was Ed Gierat with nett 74. There were only three birdies on the day, going to Trevor Thornber, Mike Conroy and Roger Armitage, winning them £18 each.

Leslie Haynes Result – 11th July 2015
Adam takes Leslie Haynes Title. On a perfect day for golf and with the course in tip top condition, new member Adam Dennis posted a great score of 41pts to win the Leslie Haynes Board Competition and the Division Two prize.
Division One winner was Martin Crabtree who came in with 40 pts, second place was Simon Lightbown with 39pts and third place going to Geoff Hope with 35pts.
Division Two winner was Adam Dennis with 41pts, second was ‘in form’ Jerry “the putter” Wade with 40 pts, third place was junior member and future potential open champion Taylor Linford with 38 pts.
It was a roll over on the two’s with four players taking home £30 each; Ken Bolton, John Jobes, Simon Lightbown and Joseph Yates.

Robert Lightfoot – 27 June 2015
Day Out For Davies
On a lovely day for golf and the course playing very well, it was Chris Davies who threw back the years to take the Robert Lightfoot Trophy with a nett 68.Chris won the trophy and Division One by pipping Steve Green on a card playoff putting Steve second also on 68 nett, third place went to Gordon Taylor with net 69.Division Two winner was Clive Rees net 69,second was Joseph Heap net 70 beating John Hyde on a card playoff also with net 70.
We had no two’s on the day taking the pot to £66 for the next singles comp.


Saturdays July 25th and August 1st
New boy Nick Jefferson lifts the Arthur Longworth Cup with a two round total of 69-69-138 closely followed by rivals and friends, Peter Seavers and Martin Crabtree both on 142. Congratulations to all those competitors who showed consistency over 36 holes.

Saturday 4th July
Texas Scramble was the Saturday Competition and it was a magnificent score of nett 58.8 which won.
With a tenth of the combined handicaps it was Rostron, Seavers, Crabtree and Tuley who took the first prize closely followed by Ellis, Kennerley Taylor and Lightbown who posted a nett 59.3.
The course played very well which was reflected by the well under par scores.


Sunday 16th August – Herbie Sloan Trophy
First – Joe Yates and Vivien Birtwell 71pts ; Second – Kevin Moore and Wendy Green ; Third – Dave Flanagan and Vivien Lee. For full report and pictures see News item.
