The highlight of the season, Captain’s Day got underway on a bright, blustery Whalley Golf Course, superbly presented by green keepers Ryan and Ben. The greens were fast but true and Captain, Roger Lee and his glamorous assistants from the Ladies section provided delicious refreshments for the 69 competitors.
The Captain generously provided a magnificent table of prizes for the winners. First place went to stalwart of the club, John Harvey with a 67, second was the young, thrusting Chris Summers with 69 and third was the ever amiable Simon Lightbowm. Prizes also went to Steve Farnsworth-best front nine, Gary Meakin-best back nine, Bruce Craig and Graham Hill for nearest the pin on 18th and 8th. Seniors Prize went to Gordon Taylor.
After a sumptuous dinner, prepared and served by catering manager Julia and her staff, Captain, Roger Lee, presented the prizes and thanked the many members of his family and fellow members, who had made the day such a huge success. Every table in the beautifully prepared room was punctuated by the blue blazers of past captains, worn with pride, to honour the current captain. The evening was rounded off with music, dancing and good fellowship, which is the hallmark of this fine club.
