Lady Captain's Challenge

Last Sunday was a red letter day for Whalley Golf Club, as our Lady Captain JTV completed a remarkable inter-club challenge that took her across eight courses in a single day.

The hospitality, generosity and warmth shown by every club visited throughout the L.C. Challenge was, by all accounts, quite overwhelming, and the reception JTV received on her return to Whalley was something truly special.
The day began before most people had even stirred. Mo and Chris were on hand from 5.30am, accompanying JTV for the opening holes at Ghyll and Colne as the sun rose and the wildlife came to life around them. Agnes and Jen then took over, guiding her through Rishton and Baxenden, where an unexpected act of courtesy lunch from the Baxenden L.C. set a wonderfully generous tone for the rest of the day.
Carrie and Sarah stepped in next, joining JTV for the sunny lunch before tackling Green Haworth, not without a spot of trolley trouble along the way! Soon solved and on to Stoneyhurst where their L.C. kindly laid on afternoon tea to revive the group ahead of the final stretch.
Jean and Jan accompanied JTV for the penultimate nine at Great Harwood, before bringing her home to Whalley for the last and hilliest round and a memorable final hole,  a fitting end to an extraordinary day.
When asked whether she would do it again, JTV was emphatic: NO.
The atmosphere of the day, she felt, was something that simply could not be recreated, one of those rare occasions where everything came together perfectly.

The Numbers

A side bet on these figures was open to members beforehand, for those who entered a guess, now you know how close you were!

441 total shots

44,115 steps taken

We would like to extend our warmest congratulations to JTV on a truly memorable achievement, and our deepest thanks to all eight caddies and to every club that welcomed her so generously throughout the day.
