Mr Captain’s Drive In
Over 90 men braved the elements to celebrate the new season. The morning players endured bitterly cold, gale force winds and heavy rain. Mr Captain, Morgan Whipp, started off the afternoon Shotgun with a magnificent drive of over 220yds against the still bitter wind but in a brief spell of sunshine, which soon disappeared behind threatening clouds. The winning team, Ben Graves, Danny Lyles, Matt Bartle and Iain Harris, must be congratulated as should all the players for their endurance.

Lady Captain’s Drive In
In contrast to Mr Captain’s Drive In the sun shone warmly for Lady Captain, Joan Whittaker’s Drive In. Under a calm, virtually cloudless blue sky Joan drove the ball 134yds. 36 ladies then filled the course for the 9 hole competition which was won by Julie Taylor, Julie Singh, Annie Lavis and Debbie Carter.
As is tradition, the ladies then enjoyed afternoon tea together after which L.C. explained the Captains’ fund raising for the year, The BOREing Fund. She then announced, to tumultuous applause, the new L.C. Elect, Gillian Newton.
