Despite the inclement conditions Junior Captain, Taylor Linford, successfully started off the Junior season with his Drive-In on Sunday 12th April. A good attendance of members, family and friends saw him do a super drive straight down the first fairway. In the wind, rain and cold 6 intrepid golfers embarked on a 9 hole competition, which was won by Tom Hughes. The prize table and refreshments were kindly supplied by Taylor’s parents.
Margaret Calvert, Junior Organiser, wisely decided to keep the younger juniors indoors and held an imaginative putting competition in the clubhouse, which resulted in them all winning chocolate eggs!
Saturday 28th March forecast seriously inclement weather for the Captain’s Drive In. Roger Lee, Captain, managed an excellent drive despite driving rain to open the Men’s season. Unfortunately, the competition had to be abandoned after a few holes due to standing water.
Members celebrated that evening in the clubhouse with a formal dinner and dance to officially open the new season. A champagne reception, was followed by a four course meal and live entertainment by Level 2.
Thursday 26th March saw Lady Captain, Margaret Breakell, open the new golf season with a brilliant drive down the first fairway. 43 Lady members joined her in a nine hole team competition in increasingly windy conditions. Lady Captain led her team to triumph on the day, along with Margaret Calvert, Sally Blenkinship and Janet Halfpenny.
This enjoyable first competition was followed by an afternoon tea at which the winner of the Winter League, Karen Thompson, was presented with her trophy.
