CAPTAIN’S AWAY DAY – Friday 28th August 2015 – Otley Golf Club

A bright sunny morning saw 44 Whalley members arrive for Bacon Sandwiches before the morning 9 hole Competition.    The format was Fourball Better Ball – Stableford off Full Handicap, which suited everybody.

The winners were Simon Lightbown and Chris Blackadder with 24 points and second Steve Farnsworth and Paul Wray also with 24 points.   During lunch the “Heavens” opened but fortunately the afternoon weather was warm and sunny.

The afternoon Competition was a Four-Man Team Stableford off 3/4 handicap with the best two scores on each hole to count.   This fun Competition was won by Kevin and Tony Moore, Stuart Andrews and John Hamilton with 80 points.   Second place with 79 points were Gary Meakin, Roy Ellis, Colin Elliott and James Kennerley.

After golf all members dressed in jacket, collar and tie and sat out on the Patio enjoying the sunshine and a well earned drink.  An excellent meal followed with Captain, Roger Lee presenting the prizes.

Vice Captain Richard Ferley who had helped with scrutinising the cards, thanked the Captain for organising the day at Otley;  an excellent venue.

Members were keen to hear the announcement of next year’s Captain Elect – George Blenkinship who thanked Richard and pledged his efforts towards the continuing success of Whalley Golf Club.

Great day out was the unanimous opinion.
